General Motors knows how much competition is there in the Indian car bazaar and to keep up with the same, it has slashed the prices of its hatchback, Chevrolet Sail UVA by Rs.25000. this price slash is done to make the competition stronger with Maruti Swift, which is one of the favorites for an average car aspiring consumer. It hasn’t been long that Chevrolet Sail UVA came into the industry. In Nov 2012, the car was launched with a price tag of Rs. 4.44 lakh. after the chopping of the price, now you could take home your own Chevrolet Sail UVA just for Rs. 4.19 lakh, making it quite more viable than Swift.

This chopping of price will not only establish UVA Hatchback in the market, but also help the firm in augmenting the sales figures. If we take into account the sales figures of UVA for the month of Feb 2013, it turned out to be 560 units, while on the other hand, Maruti Swift caught up to 19534 units of sales last month. Therefore, it was quite obvious that GM India had to take some measures to keep Sail hatchback in the race.

The overall sales of General Motors India weren’t impressive in February 2013 as well. The car maker sold merely 7106 units as compared to 8901 units, which were sold in Feb 2012. For the next month also, one could not expect a rise in sales figures. The reason behind this is the increase in excise duty of SUVs, which would not only affect the sales of SUVs, but also create an impact on the sales of other models. Hopefully, the sluggish pace of market ends here and the sales figures rise for the firm quickly and rapidly.

The demand of hatchback cars in India is never ending and this demand resulted in a cut throat competition and all automobile manufactures want to have the biggest share of it. With the same hope Chevrolet launched its Sail U-VA in 2012. The sales figures however did not reach to the numbers expected by GM, and in order to make it happen the company earlier this-month slashed the prices of its U-VA hatch by Rs.25000, and now the company has launched a base diesel variant of the Chevrolet Sail U-VA  called the Sail PS.

Although base PS model was available in petrol variant, ever since the launch. The base PS diesel variant is launched recently priced at Rs 5.29 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), which is about Rs. 30,000 cheaper than the Maruti Suzuki Swift LDI. The prices of the diesel variant are now also available on the company’s official website.

The entry-level Sail U-VA PS comes with the basic comfort features such as manually operated air conditioner, front power windows, electrically operated OVRMs, remote boot opener and tilt-adjustable steering wheel. Also the base variant will have steel wheels rather than the alloy wheels. Powering the diesel Sail U-VA will be a 1.3 litre diesel engine producing a power 79PS@205Nm of torque. The engine will be coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission.

The redesigned 2014 Chevrolet Camaro SS will debut at the 2013 New York Auto Show on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 (12:45 p.m). For now, Chevrolet has given a sneak peak of what to expect from the refreshed vehicle which is most likely to benefit from a more sleeker design just from the grill, which appears to be much more toned down in size than the current one.

Revised bumpers front and rear and an upgraded interior too is expected with this update.

The 2014 model represents the most significant change for the fifth-generation Camaro, which has been the most popular sports car in America for three consecutive years. At the event, new Camaro will be joined by the all-new Corvette Stingray and Chevrolet SS performance sedan, completing the line of new performance vehicles Chevrolet will offer for 2014 in US.

No word on any powertrain details as usual. Though speculation throughout the rumor mill includes the possibility of a new 7.0-litre LS7 V8 as an option, along with the recently introduced twin-turbo 3.6-litre V6.

Chevrolet Beat, an eye-catching and sporty hatchback from GM’s stable was launched in India wayback in Jan-2010. With perfect blend of style, impressive interiors, competence and dynamics, Chevy Beat is tagged as fantastic value for money car. Due to its funky design, this car has been among top preferences of youth of the country.

In America, Chevrolet is doing something which owners won’t appreciate even one bit. Domino’s Pizza is planning to buy 5,000 units of small car Chevrolet Beat, also known as Spark in the USA, for delivering pizzas in US fleet, one for each franchisee. Perhaps why pizza maker Domino’s chose Beat as their pizza delivery car?

While hiring a car designer would be one way to get the job done, the other, equally effective way would be to start a car design contest and finalize on the best design and reward the winner. Domino’s exactly did that, they conducted a 5 stage Domino Ultimate delivery vehicle challenge which completed in August-2012 and the winners are out now. The aim of this contest was to find the best design for a delivery vehicle which would come at a price of $20,000 (INR 11 lakh) for Domino’s Pizzas.

The competition was divided into four categories – exterior rendering, interior rendering, night scene and best branding. Romanian designer Marian Cilibeanu was a winner in three of the four categories. His D-Box2 won first place where exterior rendering was concerned which is ideally suited for Domino’s Logo and Out for Delivery signs. D-Box2 project was also the cynosure of all attention due to its special bulls eye window on delivery door situated just behind driver’s door.

Romanian designer Ianis Vasilatos and SparkUS project was ranked third where interior rendering category was concerned. The changes made to the Beat to deliver pizzas include a new front bumper, matte finish grey paint (with Domino’s written on both the doors and hood) and cab style illuminated banner is placed on the roof of the car. It is likely to be powered by 1.2-litre Smartech petrol engine producing 84 BHP. However, don’t expect this to be a reality anytime soon in India, as you know Domino’s outlet still depend on 100cc motorcycles to deliver pizzas!!!

Earlier last-month, we reported that GM India has commenced the production of the Enjoy MPV at its manufacturing plant in Halol, now the fresh reports emerged suggest that the company is all-set to launch their new Enjoy MPV by the end of this month at aggressive price points. Chevrolet’s main aim would be targeting its rival i,e Maruti Ertiga which has over 5000 units sold every month currently in the Indian market.

Chevrolet Enjoy is originally a chinese van named ‘Hongguang’ which was developed by SAIC-GM-Wuling JV and is almost about 3-years old. When Chevrolet is about to introduce Enjoy into the Indian market, the original van Honguang is set for getting a facelift and unfortunately this facelifted version of the van would not be available in Indian market for now. Chevrolet Enjoy would be the companies first introduction of multi purpose vehicle into the Indian market. The company is expecting to sell 50,000 units per year.

Coming to the technical specifications, it would be powered by 1.4-litre S-TEC petrol mill and a the Fiat sourced 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine. The 1.4-litre S-TEC petrol engine would be able to attain 93bhp and 127Nm of torque while the 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine would be able to produce 88bhp and 200Nm of torque. Along with this, both the engines would be provided with 5-speed manual transmission and a seating capacity of 7-people.

Currently, GM India has no plans of introducing alternative fuel options, they have bright hopes only on the diesel variant, which could be a sold like a hot cakes once launched.

Chevrolet Enjoy MPV is now all-set to launch very soon in India within a few weeks of time as the vehicle appears on the Chevrolet’s Official Website. In the website, the company has also revealed some pictures and details of the Enjoy and started an online campaign called ‘Enjoy Voyage’ that allows people to participate and win an all new Chevrolet Enjoy.

First unveiled at the Auto Expo 2012, Chevrolet Enjoy will come with a combination of petrol and diesel motors. The Enjoy’s petrol version for Indian auto market will be empowered with a 1.4-litre petrol motor while the diesel trim will be loaded with a 1.3-litre turbo diesel power train. The Transmission will be the 5-speed manual for both diesel and petrol variants.

Its petrol and diesel engine models are reported to give out approx mileage of 16 kmpl and 21 kmpl on the open highway rides respectively. But how it will be able to pull the load of increased passengers will only be revealed when it comes to the market.

Chevrolet Enjoy MPV

American car manufacturer, General Motors today launched its first ever MPV, Chevrolet Enjoy in India at a starting price of Rs. 5.49 lakh. With this launch the 3 E’s of Indian MPV market is complete today, includes Ertiga, Evalia and Enjoy. The Enjoy MPV is launched in both petrol and diesel engine options, it has been made available in a total 3 trim levels- LS, LT and LTZ with 3-diesel and 3-petrol variants.

The Enjoy which is an updated version of Chinese manufacturer Wuling’s CN-100 from the GM-SAIC-Wuling parternship has been positioned against the Maruti Ertiga and Nissan Evalia. Customers get the option of choosing between 7 or 8 seat variants. While the 7-seater has captain seats in the first two rows and a bench in the third, the 8-seater gets benches in the middle and last row.

The last row is easily foldable. Space and flexibility is optimum in the cabin with maneuverability to the 3rd seat being easy with 3rd row seats in the Enjoy being most spacious in this segment. Interiors are large thanks to a higher roof while first two rows are both spacious and comfortable. The top 3 diesel and petrol variants sport captain seats, making them 7-seaters.

Under the hood, The Enjoy is powered by a Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre diesel engine and a 1.4-litre petrol engine capable of churning out 77bhp and 103bhp respectively, both the engines are mated to a 5-speed manual gearboxes as standard. ARAI has recorded fuel efficiency at 13.7 kpl for petrol and 18.2 kpl for the diesel.

Chevrolet Enjoy MPV – DashView

General Motors has also kitted the Enjoy well. The top-end LTZ trim comes with twin air bags for the front passengers, ABS, EBD, remote keyless entry with buzzer and rear wiper as also washer. Safety is optimum with 10 high strength collision protection beams. The company is offering a 3 years/1 lakh kms warranty, whichever is earlier for the Enjoy.

The Enjoy MPV will be manufactured at GM’s Halol plant in Gujarat with the diesel engine being supplied from their Talegaon facility. The company currently has 285 outlets in 220 cities with plans to add 25 more soon.

Chevrolet’s compact version of Enjoy MPV rendered by Team-Bhpian named JayPrashanth

General Motors have been in the Indian market for quite some time now, and has been doing really well in the SUV segment with its Chevrolet Tavera, although its sedans and the hatchback couldn’t create the same rapo with the buyers, but at least it didn’t bring Chevrolet in an awkward position. Recently Chevrolet introduced its latest edition in the SUV segment the Enjoy, and there is already news that a sub 4-meter version of the Enjoy is in the works and may be rolled out in 2015.

Making a compact version of an existing vehicle is quite a trend nowadays in the Indian MUV segment, major vehicle manufacturers like Mahindra, Ford and Maruti have already introduced a chopped down version of their existing line-up and are doing quite good. A mini version has its own advantages, since the manufacturers do not need to go through the entire R&D cycle to introduce a new vehicle and also being in the sub-4-meter category they enjoy the exemption in duty, which brings down the cost of the vehicle considerably.

The mini Enjoy will have to be chopped from the back, which may means this version will not have any seats at the rear, making it a 5-seater, also the existing 1.4-litre petrol engine will be replaced by a 1.2-litre engine which can produce a power of 85bhp which is currently used in the Chevy Sail. The loss of power will be compensated by lesser weight compared to the 7-seater version. Lesser power also means a better fuel efficiency, which one of the top cards in the Indian vehicle market. Also since the MUV will fall into the sub 4-meter category it can be expected to be priced Rs. 40,000 lesser than the current model.

Chevrolet Beat for me has been a winner with its out of the box designs and sports car look and feel. But I had chosen to steer clear of the Petrol/ CNG as I already have Santro Xing CNG Which is ultimate to Drive. But the diesel was a different ballgame with Brother of Fiat 1.3 MJD. I was looking at a diesel hatch for a really long time. Almost gave in to Ford Figo but felt I wanted something different and new. The Beat diesel came and gave it to me. I happened to start following up about the launch of the car. I went in to the showroom and Test Drive the Car atleast 4 times in Different Showrooms and also drove Ford Figo but the Less Ground Clearance was one of the very NEGATIVE Aspect of the Car, so I gave up.

I started the engine (1.0-litre  TCDI) of Chevy Beat diesel and was waiting for the noise to sink in. There wasn’t any! Drove it further instantly felt the turbo and boy I got hooked. Showed the car to my wife and She liked it too. Not that they had any choice but for to like it.

Exterior Smooth curves, however, I didn’t quite like the satin roof rails and the Rear Spoiler. The back door handle is a plus. The car is tall from the front unmistakably Chevy. The tall grill screams Chevy with its big badge bulging from the center. The small boot door. The funny rear bumper bulges from the rear inviting others to kiss it? But one can’t design a car on your own yet! So I planned for Chevy Beat diesel base model and wanted to Modify it own my own. I bought it in the year 2011.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Low but adequate seats. The buckets were nicely shaped. The dash has good space, the interior is lit well with ample of pockets and spaces for the cans and bottles and the newspaper. Tall dashboard (a damper I feel). I find the dark grey interiors much better than the beige option provided by some other cars. In my personal opinion interiors are better than most of the other cars in its price range.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Zippy engine. Turbo kicks in around 2000rpm. Travel in the city is a breeze. On the expressway, sped to around 125kmph top speed and gave an FE of approx 22kmpl with 100% ac 90-10 highway-city usage. The EPS works amazingly well. Airconditioning is adequate & very effective.

In city driving I have never found the 3-cylinder diesel engine lacking. However on one instance in a unpaved inclined wet hilly road, I found it gasping for power – I think it’s being too demanding on this puny engine.

Ride Quality & Handling The Beat just grips the road and creases out the bumps easily. The suspension is soft but solid at the same time. A down side is that I feel that the steering does not center out after negotiating a curve or turn. I am going to check with other users on the same.

Final Words Good car to own and but. There may be users differing . But this one fits my bill perfectly and the Chevy promise says that i am to spend less than Rs 17,500/- in 3 years or 45,000 kms. What can I say? Happy with the buy !!!

Overall Build Quality: It’s quite a reliable car. Till date I have not faced any issue.

Transformers 4 movie casts 6th-Gen Chevrolet Camaro 2016 Upgrade

The Transformers 4 movie director Michael Bay has officially revealed the new 2014 Chevrolet Camaro that will play the role of Bumblebee in the upcoming film, alongside a first-gen Camaro SS. Although the new Bumblebee Autobot sports a familiar black and yellow paintjob, it features a slightly restyled body compared to the recently revealed Camaro facelift.

The Bumblebee boasts a different front-end that include the faired-in headlamp and grille arrangement has made way for a slimmer, sleeker setup. A larger lower intake eats into where the fog lamps are supposed to be and its rear haunches are flared. There’s also a bodykit, a rear spoiler, a fuel filler cap on the quarter window and what looks like flush door handles.

In addition to the Camaro, the film also features other Chevy performance car like the new 2014 Corvette Stingray and Sonic RS rally car. Apart from Chevy cars, other vehicles announced for the movie include Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse, Pagani Huayra, Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4, military truck from Oshkosh Defense, as well as Freightliner Argosy and Western Star trucks from Daimler Trucks North America.

The Transformers 4 movie is set to premiere worldwide on June 27, 2014.

Finally Chevrolet’s Beat gets a couple of features being added such as driver seat height adjustment and silver inserts into the dashboard which is similar to the existing inserts in the steering wheel.

GM had decided to update the Chevrolet Beat after obtaining customers feed back as well as through repeated studies. The updated Chevrolet Beat would have only those two features being added and will inherit the current generation engine.

Apart from this, Chevrolet Beat has undergone a facelift in the International market in which the facelifted Chevrolet Beat features dual-port grille, new headlamps and fog lamps, new alloy wheels (with an option of 14 and 15 inch), new LED stop light integrated into the rear spoiler. Further details on the facelifted Beat would be available only at the 2014 Auto Expo.

For all the car lovers who wish to have a topless car with no maintenance cost, this would be one of the opportunities to get a grab of the Indian Cabriolet since Chevrolet is already promising a three year free maintenance on their range of cars. According to the information obtained from Indian Autos Blog, the convertible version of Spark would cost 1.2 to 1.45 lakhs INR in addition to the existing price of the Chevrolet Spark.

GM India recalls 1.14 lakh units of Chevrolet Tavera MPV gets into Trouble

Not much time after the recent recall from Ford where Ford had recalled 972 units of EcoSport Diesel on component placement concerns, Now GM India recalls 1.14 lakh units of Chevrolet Tavera MPV. This huge recall from General Motors has prompted the government to order a probe into GM India. As per the information obtained, GM India was violating testing norms which was actually done by some of the GM employees.

Further on the violation, some of the GM employees used to install fine tuned lower emission pre tested engines only during inspection checks to meet the specified emission norms and which was then later removed from the vehicle during its delivery. These employees had also manipulated the weights of the several models. As the impact of this violation, big investigation had taken place at the company after which some of the GM Staff is already in trouble and more than 20 executives including four top bosses has already been asked to leave the company.

Within a year, already nine recalls being already done from different models, GM’s recall of 1.4 lakh units of Tavera is considered to be the largest. This has provoked the Indian government to conduct a review.

2013 Chevrolet Beat (Spark) – FrontView

Chevrolet Beat has proved to be a successful car in the GM line-up and that’s not just in India but also other parts of the world. It’s almost 3 years since the launch and nothing much have changed in the model apart from some facelifts. Just some time back GM India introduced satin trim on the dashboard and the height adjustment feature for the driver’s seat. To attract more customers GM is also offering a luring discount of Rs. 66,000 on the petrol version of the Beat.

A next-generation Beat is in pipeline and is expected to be launched in 2015. The next generation Beat (aka Spark in international markets) will be manufactured in South Korea which by far happens t be the biggest manufacturing hub for Beat for local as well as international markets. Although the Beat sold in the international markets have received a host of new features including, electrically adjustable wing mirrors, automatic headlamps and new colours the same has yet not introduced in the India specific model.

GM is expected to include all these features at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo. The company has also announced to extend the production of the existing Cruze by one year considering the success that it making globally.

2013 Chevrolet Captiva facelift – FrontView

Chevrolet after adding a couple of features to its Beat in the Indian market had also launched the facelifted Captiva in the Korean market early this-year showcasing the same at the Geneva motor show as well. Unfortunately General Motors has launched the new 2013 Chevrolet Captiva facelift in India without any ceremony.

The 2013 Captiva facelift is featured with a new lower front bumper which also has refreshed front grille and fog lamps, new LED tail-lamps, 18 inch alloy wheels, redesigned multimedia screen, heated rear seats, revised ambient lighting, new seat upholstery and restyled rear bumpers which also houses chromed exhaust pipes. The higher trim of the all-new 2013 Captiva facelift would also be available with leather seat covers and also key-less go feature.

Apart from this, the facelifted Captiva also features standard sunroof on the LTZ variant, rear parking sensors, rain sensing wipers, cruise control, stereo with eight speakers, dual-zone climate control, 6 airbags, automatic level ride suspension, ABS with EBD, descent control system and a new black interiors instead of lighter shade seen in the previous Captiva.

2013 Chevrolet Captiva facelift – RearView

Coming to the technical specifications, the facelifted Captiva is now also available with a 6-speed manual transmission which was earlier available only in automatic transmission. The new Captiva is now equipped with a 2.2-litre diesel engine which is good for 184bhp and 43.24kgm replacing the 2.0-litre diesel engine. The Captiva LT (Manual non metallic) is a two wheel drive version and is priced at around 23.49 lakh INR (ex-showroom Delhi). The Captiva LTZ (Automatic) is an all-wheel-drive version and is priced at around 26.49 lakh INR (ex-showroom Mumbai).
